Kona

We took Kade and Sierra to Hawaii, his first trip and her second, to meet up with their grandparents and favorite aunt Barb. This was the first time for us to stay at one of the large resorts (Hilton Waikoloa Village). It’s an interesting setup – the resort has three large towers spread over 60 acres of grounds that were blasted out of a lava field. There’s an electric tram and canal/boat system for moving people along the waterfront, a pair of large pools with water slides, a “dolphin encounter pool”, and a small lagoon replete with trucked-in sand. All of the amenities contribute to a Disneyland feel, which is a good thing when traveling with the under-four set. They loved swimming in the pools, riding the boats and trains, picking up flowers left from the day’s wedding ceremonies, and drinking rumless rum drinks. Given that they were too young for the dolphin swim and that the largest pool was closed for renovations, we suspect that they’ll lobby for a return visit.
