Allen Roberts, Jeremiah Wassom, and I tried to climb Mount Shasta over the Memorial Day Weekend via the Clear Creek route on the south side of the peak. The weather report had been iffy, with reports of 60 mph winds and snow showers “with no accumulation”. We decided to hike up to base camp at 8200 feet and wait for a break in the weather. The good news was that the winds were moderate; the bad news is that “no accumulation” turned into eight inches of sticky snow and poor visibility. Deciding that discretion was the better part of valor, we headed back out.
