We drove up to visit Northern California’s two national parks: Redwood and Lassen. Redwood has much larger groves than the parks in the Bay Area, and has the added bonus of Fern Canyon, with its 50-foot green walls. Lassen is at the south end of the Cascade range, and combines Alpine meadows with thermal features remininsicent of Yellowstone but without the same crowds.
On the way up, we spent a couple of days in Napa Valley, and on the way back at Drakesbad Ranch, which is just inside the southern edge of Lassen.
